How we count
- Each count is a new-home permit from an official city, county or state record, issued in the period shown.
- Demolition permits are counted on their own; a teardown often comes before a new house.
- Numbers under 10 show as “<10”, and no page shows an address.
- Counts cover the areas our sources publish; each county page names them.
